As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
It is really just all about diving in. Signing up for God’s way with reckless abandon and going after God like a junkyard dog would go after trespasser. I used to ride around some old industrial areas in the middle of the night on my Harley. The pipes sound different bouncing off the streets in those places. That’s where I got the junkyard dog analogy. There was this tore up old pit bull guarding this tore up old junkyard and if you stopped on the street out front he would hit that fence like he thought he could go through it. He was relentless. He was a dog fulfilling his ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. We didn't get saved to sit and take up space in church every Sunday. Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. My position needs to be, “Lord what are these good works? Show them to me, I am ready to rock it out! I am going at that fence with all I've got, I am fired up to serve You! I want to fulfill my ministry!” If we make ourselves available and stay watchful God will, every single day, put someone in front of us that only we can help. The scripture says, As you, “therefore”, have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him. “Therefore?”, I was broken and debauched, sick and tired of the futility of my life, convicted by the Spirit of God over my sin and my self-centeredness so, “therefore”, I truly heard Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. Man, I flung that door open and grabbed Jesus and pulled Him in to every room in my heart. I gave Him permission to kick down any doors He found locked because I didn’t want any part of me to not be His. It says we are to be rooted and built up in Him. You ever try to dig up a tree that has been in the ground for a while? Man those roots are almost impossible to tear away from their little piece of earth. They are gripping rocks, wrapped around whatever will give them purchase and holding on tight. So we need to be, “established”, that means here to stay, having tenure, dependability. Finally we need to be, oh so thankful. He endured the cross, think of that for a while. Think about what that really means. He did that for us because He loves us.
“Lord, today I am going to be like that dog going after You like he goes at that fence. I am going to be like that tree with its roots wrapped around You, gripping tightly, immovable, inseparable. I am going to walk in thanksgiving for I shall never forget from where you brought me, amen.”
